About This Project
Safe Driving For Parents is a health and safety initiative designed to support new parents who are navigating the challenges of sleep deprivation while continuing to drive.
Becoming a parent is life-changing, and the early months often come with disrupted sleep, fatigue, and increased responsibilities.
These factors can significantly affect driving performance and increase the risk of fatigue-related incidents.
This website provides science-backed, practical resources to help new parents understand how sleep loss impacts driving, and what they can do to stay safe on the road. The tools and strategies shared here are designed to be simple, accessible, and relevant to the realities of early parenthood.
While the content is tailored for new parents, the advice is applicable to anyone experiencing sleep disruption and fatigue.
We aim to empower individuals to make informed decisions about driving and to prioritise their wellbeing during this demanding life stage.
PROJECT SUPPORT
This project was proudly funded by the Australasian Sleep Association, whose support has made it possible to bring evidence-based sleep and safety resources to new parents across Australia.
Support was also provided by CQUniversity Australia and the Appleton Institute, whose facilities and research environment contributed to the development of this initiative.
